레드로드 (re·deu·ro·deu) is the brand Mapo-gu gave the streets that used to go by separate names, 어울마당로, 걷고싶은거리 and 당인리사거리. It is a tourism street of about 2 km, curved and painted red, from Hongik University station to the Sangsu station area, in seven sections. R1 is the start by the station, R7 the end near Hapjeong station exit 7, and the walk takes about 25 minutes.
More about it
Visit Seoul lists R1 as the Red Culture Market, 220 m from exit 9 at 348-24 Seogyo-dong, with flea markets, caricature drawing, traditional games and busking. In September 2024 a 300 m² floor artwork called 픽셀여행 by 추미림 went in at R1 as part of the city's Playable Seoul project; exits 4, 5 and 7 all reach it, and 7 is the closest.
Kickboards are banned along the whole road, the first such street in the country: Seoul police approved Mapo-gu's request in December 2024, the district announced an April start, and its own notice set the start at 16 May 2025. At the far end, R7 on 어울마당로 between 독막로 and 토정로 was being changed to one-way traffic with the east pavement widened from under 2 m to 3.5 m, so the road links the park to the river on foot.
