레드로드 발전소 (re·deu·ro·deu bal·jeon·so) is the 250 m of old railway between Hongik University station exit 6 and the Wau bridge, the strip that was the Gyeongui Line Book Street from October 2016 until its last four booth operators were sent off on 30 June 2023. Mapo-gu reopened it on 1 May 2024 under the new name, a power station for its Red Road project: the train-shaped booths were refitted for Red Road Makers, local artists and craftspeople picked by the district, who work in them and put on exhibitions, hands-on sessions and festivals. The district runs the place itself now rather than through a contractor.
More about it
Since 7 October 2024 the strip has also had a Red Road information room and gallery, with photographs of how the street changed and a graffiti wall visitors can use. The makers' booths, white with orange trim, stand along the path with the park's trees between them.
