것The deal
연남동 (yeon·nam·dong) sits right in front of exit 3 of Hongik University station, where the Yeonnam section of the Gyeongui Line Forest Park begins. Visit Seoul calls that stretch 연트럴파크 (yeon·teu·reol·pa·keu), Yeontral Park, and describes young people laying out mats on the grass with beer. At night there is beer and busking in the park.

The neighbourhood has more small cafés and independent shops than big franchises, with restaurants down the deeper alleys. Artists' shops line the park. A workshop street at 33 Seongmisan-ro 26-gil, about eight minutes from exit 3, has murals, small boutiques and handicrafts by young makers.
Mapo-gu runs a free two-hour walking tour called Yeonnam, One Fine Day, starting at exit 3 and following the park into the workshop and mural alleys. Visit Seoul lists it in Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese.
하는 법How to
Come out of exit 3 and you are in the park. Walk north along the old tracks; the cafés are in the alleys to either side. For the Mapo-gu walking tour, book on mapo.go.kr at least three days ahead; tours need at least five people and are cancelled when a weather warning is issued.
