것The deal
소맥 (so·maek) is soju and beer in one glass: a shot of soju, beer on top, down in one. Hankyung's trend column of 25 June 2026 calls it the drink of the company dinner and the outdoor table, and says the ritual is in who mixes, in what ratio and who gets the first glass.
More about it
The ratio is argued over. A measuring glass sold in Seoul from December 2010 marked soju-to-beer lines from 1:9 up to 5:5, with a cartoon face on each; its designer told the Korea JoongAng Daily that 3:7 was the golden one.
In 2026 the mix went into a can. Sunyang Soju's 선양 오크소맥, a 500 ml can at 5.7% made with Seven Brau lager, sold 300,000 cans in its first five days at four convenience-store chains and passed a million within forty days. On 3 November 2026 Hankyung reported that Hite Jinro will follow this month with 테라 소맥, 참이슬 in 테라 at about 6% in a 485 ml can, for convenience stores. That pairing already has a nickname, 테슬라 (te·seul·la), 테라 plus 참이슬, which got a lift in June when Jensen Huang drank it with Chey Tae-won, Koo Kwang-mo and Lee Hae-jin at a 삼겹살 restaurant in Hongdae.

At a restaurant you order a bottle of soju and bottles of beer and someone at the table mixes. The premixed cans, Sunyang's since June 2026 and Hite Jinro's planned for November 2026, are convenience-store items, so you can taste the ratio before anyone hands you a glass.
