A 컴백 is what Korean pop calls a new release, even one that comes five months after the last. It arrives on a timetable: concept photos, a teaser clip, the song and video at a fixed hour, then a week of music shows.
This week had three. JISOO of BLACKPINK released ADDICTED at 8 in the morning on Thursday 30 October, the second single ahead of her first full solo album. On Monday 2 November at 6 in the evening, TREASURE released the single SHOCK and TWS released the single TO US, whose title track is 내 이름을 불러줘, Call My Name.
The hour is the point. Korean releases go out at 6 p.m. KST on weekdays because that is when the charts reset and fans are off work and school, so the first-day numbers are counted together. On Tuesday morning the SHOCK video had passed 5.8 million views and the Call My Name video 2 million in Korea’s most-popular chart.
SHOCK is TREASURE’s first release since the June mini album NEW WAV, and it borrows a hook from Hot 뜨거, a 1999 song by their label’s first hip-hop group, 1TYM. TO US is TWS’s second single; the group had just finished a run of teasers from 28 October. ADDICTED, by its own account, is JISOO leaving the image she had.

For the week after a release, the music shows are on the broadcasters’ official channels the same day: Music Bank on Fridays, Show! Music Core on Saturdays, Inkigayo on Sundays. The 응원법, the fan chant, is published by the group’s channel so the audience shouts the right words.
The shows are recorded in Seoul with small studio audiences drawn from fan clubs. From abroad, the official channels are the whole event.
