것The deal
다이소 명동역점 (da·i·so myeong·dong·yeok·jeom) takes a whole building at 퇴계로 134-1, basement to twelfth floor by Daiso's own store list, which also marks it as a tax-free shop with a lift. Chosun Ilbo visited in March 2023, the week after it opened on 28 February 2023, and found it 50 metres from exit 1 of 명동역. The lower floors held snacks, accessories and character goods, and from the sixth floor up it was kitchenware and household goods. A Daiso spokesperson told the paper that every product is 5,000 won or under; the store's own first-week bestsellers were snacks, character goods, tumblers, tote bags and plush toys, with the biscuit 초코하임 at number one.

The tills take a while. Chosun described a queue at the staffed counters because foreign shoppers were skipping the self-checkout kiosks.

Exit 1 of 명동역 (line 4), then 50 metres. Take the lift to the top and work your way down. Daiso's store page lists 텍스프리, so have your passport for receipts of 15,000 won or more.
